By Antonia Holligan, Summer Intern

Before beginning my internship, I was quite nervous as I had no idea what to expect, or what type of work I would be doing. On the first day I was told I was being placed in the tax and succession department which I was very happy about as it was a subject area I had enjoyed studying at University.

I have now been here for just over two weeks and I have already had the opportunity to do such varied work and I have learned so much in such a short space of time. As everything is brand new, I was concerned I wouldn’t be able to tackle the tasks; but with the support and guidance of my team I have really enjoyed the learning experience. My team have been more than happy to help and answer all the questions which has really created a comfortable and efficient learning environment.

So far, I have drafted Wills and letters to clients, placed phone calls on behalf of clients, and have also had the opportunity to help in the process of dealing with a client’s estate which has been challenging but very interesting. With such varied tasks and so much to learn, the days really fly by.

Since arriving, we have been made to feel incredibly welcome. There have been a number of lunches organised for us with other interns, mentors, trainees and our teams, which have enabled us to get to know as many people as possible and learn more about the other areas of law in which Turcan Connell practises. We have also been invited to the annual summer BBQ and to join the hockey team which has really made me feel included.

Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time so far and I am excited to see what the next few weeks have in store.
