Introduction
The Stevenston Charitable Trust was established in 2000 with the particular aim of supporting the arts, and particularly the art of music, in the Lothians and Borders regions of Scotland.
The Trustees’ priority is the encouragement of participation in and promotion of accessibility to music and the arts, including the promotion of accessibility in spite of geographical isolation.
Application criteria
Charitable purposes
The Stevenston Charitable Trust makes grants to charities which work in the following fields:
- The advancement of the arts and culture – the Trustees favour musical and visual arts, but other aspects of the arts and culture will be considered. Charities which promote access to the arts by young people are of particular interest to the Trustees. The vast majority of grants are made in this field.
- The advancement of health – the Trustees consider only a small number of grants in this field in any one year focused on the Lothians and Borders regions of Scotland only. Large national health charities are unlikely to be successful.
- Please note that the Trustees are unlikely to entertain applications which fall outside these two main areas.
Geographical spread
Projects in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Borders are supported, but the primary focus is on East Lothian. Charities which carry out work outside of the Lothians and Borders are unlikely to be considered.
Size of award made
The Trustees typically make awards of between £1,000 and £3,000 available. Larger grants or multi-year commitments are available only in very limited circumstances, at the Trustees' discretion. The Trustees will be making limited grants in 2024.
Restrictions
Please note that The Stevenston Charitable Trust makes grants to charitable bodies only. Applications by individuals will not be considered.
How to apply
The Trustees are no longer accepting any further applications for this year. We will advise applicants when the Trust is ready to receive further applications again.
Deadlines for applications
The Trustees meet once a year, usually in January or February, to decide on grants for the following 12 months.
Applications should reach us by email or in hard copy no earlier than 1st September and not later than 15th December. Applications received outside of that timeframe will be declined automatically so please apply in good time if you wish to be considered and do not apply too early. Successful applicants will normally be advised of any award by early March at the latest. The Trustees normally pay grants prior to 31st March in each year.
Please note that, in order to keep administration costs down, applications are not normally acknowledged on receipt. If you don’t hear from us by the end of March, then you should assume that your application has not been successful.
