Background

We have an opportunity for a Tax Technical Administrator to join our Office Services team in our Edinburgh office. The position is on a part-time permanent basis. The work pattern will be Wednesday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, 20.25 hours per week.

The role will principally be based in our Edinburgh office, but in the long term the Firm supports a hybrid working approach through our Smarter Working policy.

Responsibilities

You will provide full administrative assistance to the Tax team, in particular, supporting the Tax Managers with their client allocations.

The successful candidate will provide efficient administration support to the team including the preparation of Tax Working Papers, processing Fee Protection Insurance premiums, updating the Tax team database (CCH), preparing the Self-Assessment online registration, lodging Tax Returns electronically with HMRC and handling telephone calls.

As part of the role you will also:

  • prepare spreadsheets on Excel;
  • ensure all outgoing mail and enclosures are ready for signing/mailing;
  • set-up new clients on CCH;
  • update client lists for Compliance/Executry for passing at month end to Finance;
  • check client files in response to client queries;
  • saving emails into iManage, our Document Management System;
  • preparing tax stats as agreed;
  • updating potential new client log;
  • prepare fee letters/emails and update dispatch dates; and
  • prepare tax team letters of engagement and new matter inception, as required for new matters only.

Additional support may also be required and any other duties allocated as appropriate.

Skills / Qualifications

You should be flexible, self-motivated, highly competent, and able to work on your own initiative. Previous administrative experience is essential, preferably in Tax Administration. A high level of discretion and confidentiality is needed for this role as you will be exposed to highly sensitive information.

A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail is essential. You should also be an excellent communicator and be able to assist in dealing with individuals on the telephone and face-to-face.

Strong PC skills including Word, Excel and Outlook is essential and full training will be provided on the various systems used throughout the Firm.
