Alex is a solicitor in the family law team. He qualified as a solicitor in 2016 and has experience of a range of contentious and non-contentious family matters, including financial provision on divorce, cohabitation, and child-related matters. He has appeared in sheriff courts throughout Scotland and has experience of litigating in the Court of Session, including assisting with several significant appeals.
Alex has a particular interest in international family law. He is dual-qualified in Scots and English law, having also qualified in England and Wales in 2020. He has acted in, and advised on, numerous cases with an international element including cases involving contentious jurisdiction, the cross-border enforcement of orders, and international child abduction. He has experience of cases involving numerous jurisdictions including Germany, Portugal, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States. He speaks fluent German and has used the language in professional practice.
Alex joined Turcan Connell in December 2020, having spent two years completing a doctorate in private international law (including international family law) at the University of Tübingen in Germany. He hopes to be awarded the doctorate and to publish his thesis in early 2021.
