Area of practice

Debbie principally practices in charity law and is a member of Turcan Connell's specialist Charities Legal Team. Her main areas of work include trust and charity administration; advising and assisting grant-making organisations; providing advice on general governance including trustees duties and other legal issues from a charity law perspective. She also assists with the Turcan Connell Charity Office.

She has experience in advising on different legal forms and setting up charities; assisting charities with dealings with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR); charity reorganisations and internal reviews, policies and structures. From her previous legal background, Debbie brings particular experience in advising companies limited by guarantee, including their dealings with Companies House and the additional duties and responsibilities on trustees as directors under the Companies Act 2006.

After graduating from the University of Dundee with a degree in Scots law, Debbie stayed at the University of Dundee to complete the Diploma in Legal Practice. She joined Tods Murray as a trainee solicitor in 2011 and qualified into their corporate department in 2013. During her time there, Debbie was an active member of the charity law team. She moved to Turcan Connell in 2014 to specialise in charity law. Debbie is also a Trustee of the Mansfield Traquair Trust (Scottish charity number SC021599).
