Area of practice

David is an Associate in the family law team. David specialises in all areas of family law with a particular focus on financial provision on divorce, cohabitation and child related matters. David has represented high net worth individuals in complex divorce and cohabitation actions in both the Sheriff Court and Court of Session. David is also regularly instructed by separated parents and has a growing reputation for handling challenging and contentious child law cases. David’s pragmatic and empathetic manner sees most of his cases reach negotiated settlements but where agreement is not possible, he is a skilled litigator. David has extensive experience in adoption and public child law cases, where he has been instructed on behalf of a number of Local Authorities across Scotland in pursuing permanence orders. 

David is a member of the Family Law Association and is a Notary Public. He is also an Associate Lecturer in Family Law at Edinburgh Napier University. David graduated from the University of Dundee with LLB (Scots Law) First Class Honours in 2010 and continued at the University of Dundee to gain his Diploma in Legal Practice in 2011. David joined Turcan Connell in 2019 having practiced exclusively in family law since qualification at Anderson Strathern. 

Outside of the office, David is a sports enthusiast with a keen interest in rugby, golf and racket sports. He is the Chairman of the East of Scotland Squash Association and sits on the Scottish Squash Board of Directors, where he chairs the Risk and Compliance Sub-Committee.
