Noel joined Turcan Connell in January 2013 after being Head of Family Law at Maclay Murray & Spens LLP since 2006. Noel was assumed Partner at Turcan Connell in 2015. Prior to that Noel was a partner in a West Lothian Court firm. He joined Turcan Connell's family law team to help spearhead family law operations in the new Glasgow office. Noel specialises in all areas of family law but is particularly noted for acting in high value cases for high net worth individuals, for example, celebrities, sports personalities, entrepreneurs, business owners, directors, professionals and executives. Noel has successively been ranked by the Legal 500 for his experience in high net worth divorces, prenuptial agreements and child relocation cases and has been described as providing "outstanding service", being "absolutely committed to the case" and having "exemplary" knowledge.
Noel has extensive experience as a litigator having regularly appeared in both civil and criminal court cases before specialising in family law cases since 1999. Noel has considerable expertise in negotiating financial settlements and regularly drafts complex separation agreements as well as pre-nuptial and cohabitation agreements. Noel has acted for many high profile clients and has been involved in many prominent divorce cases in the Court of Session and Sheriff courts. Noel has also acted in several international child relocation cases. Noel has also acted for clients with complex family trusts as well as difficult cohabitation claims on separation and death under the Family Law (Scotland) Act 2006. Noel has assisted in many professional negligence cases involving family lawyers and has been asked for his expert opinion on several cases of potential negligence.
Noel is a trained Collaborative Lawyer and is a member of the Scottish Collaborative Family Law Group Consensus. He has also been a longstanding committee member of the Family Law Association since 2007 and was Treasurer of the organisation from 2009-2012. Noel was also the Vice Dean of West Lothian Faculty of Solicitors, and previously tutored in Business law at Strathclyde University. Noel has also given seminars on family law to various organisations in Scotland and England, such as at the Royal Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow and for the Society for Trust and Executry Practitioners (STEP). In addition Noel has developed and conducted training for younger family lawyers through accredited Professional Competence Courses and has written several Articles and publications in the Herald, Scotsman, Family law bulletin and Journal of Law Society of Scotland. Noel has been annually listed as an Expert in Family Law in the Directory of UK Legal Experts since 2009.
