Gillian heads up Turcan Connell's Divorce and Family Law Team. She is one of Scotland's leading divorce lawyers and is accredited as a specialist in Family Law by The Law Society of Scotland. Gillian has a particular expertise in cases involving business valuations, partnership issues and farming cases. She deals mainly with complex, high net worth cases, involving issues such as the valuation of shares in private companies, employee incentive schemes and share options; taxation; and the interaction between Partnership Law and Family Law. Gillian also handles an increasing number of cases arising from the cessation of cohabitation and is engaged in a number of litigated and negotiated disputes involving significant claims being brought under the Family Law (Scotland) Act 2006. She has a particular interest in cases with an international element, including disputes regarding children both child abduction and relocation cases, within the United Kingdom, Europe and beyond. She is dual qualified as a solicitor in Scotland and in England and Wales, and is a member of both the Family Law Association in Scotland and Resolution in England - both are organisations of family lawyers who believe in a constructive, non-confrontational approach to family law matters.
Gillian has a keen interest in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), and was instrumental in introducing Collaborative Law to Scotland; she was a founder member and immediate past Secretary of Consensus – the Scottish Collaborative Law organisation. She was one of the first to qualify as a Family Law Arbitrator and is secretary of the Family Law Arbitration Group Scotland (FLAGs) Committee. She is a Director and Trustee of Family Mediation Lothian. She is a qualified Mediator. Gillian is Turcan Connell's client relations Partner and is Chair of our Summer Intern and Trainee Committee.
