Alexander Garden is a Partner and Head of Turcan Connell’s Tax and Succession department. He specialises in tax & estate planning for private clients, and charity law. In particular, he advises on issues concerning succession, trusts, taxation (with both UK and international dimensions) and asset protection. Alexander was assumed as a Partner in April 2007. He is an Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, sitting on Council, Chair of the Scottish Hub Committee and sitting on the Succession Taxes sub-committee and the Scottish Taxes Technical Committee. He is also a Member of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners, sits on the Law Society of Scotland Tax and Private Client Tax Committee and is accredited as a specialist by the Law Society of Scotland in both Trust Law and Private Client Tax Law.
He speaks regularly at specialist conferences, is co-author of tax annual "Trusts and Estates in Scotland" (Bloomsbury Professional), contributes articles to professional journals including Scottish Private Client Law Review and is a former tutor on the Private Client course of the Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Edinburgh.
Alexander has held a number of charity trusteeships and is currently a trustee of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and the Edinburgh Botanic Garden (Sibbald) Trust, having recently served as a Governor of Kilgraston School.
