Introducing Our Charity Partner - Playlist for Life

Introduction to partnership with Playlist for Life

At Turcan Connell, as trusted advisors to many charitable organisations, we understand the importance of fundraising and the vital role it plays in supporting meaningful causes. Our fundraising efforts are rooted in the principles of partnership, dedication and involvement. Every two years, we support a chosen charity through a wide range of initiatives; from our annual charity hockey tournament and office bake sales, to colleagues taking on challenges such as the Edinburgh Marathon and The Kiltwalk. These events allow us to raise funds while strengthening our connection with the chosen charity and raising awareness of their work.

Our charity partners are nominated by our colleagues and selected by ballot every two years. Following the conclusion of our partnership with Rock Trust, we are delighted to welcome Playlist for Life as Turcan Connell’s charity partner until 2027.

Playlist for Life

Playlist for Life is an award-winning music and dementia charity founded by writer and broadcaster Sally Magnusson MBE. Their vision is simple: they want everyone impacted by dementia to have access to unique personalised playlist, and for everyone who loves and cares for them to know how to use it.

More than two decades of research demonstrates how personally meaningful music can reduce some of the most distressing symptoms of dementia and improve mood, connection and overall enhance quality of life. Playlist for Life has improved the lives of so many affected by dementia, Willy who is living with dementia has described the huge impact of this simple intervention: “I can say hand on heart, doing this changed my life”. Playlist for Life provides free resources and support to families affected by dementia to create personalised playlists, and trains and supports health and care professionals to use playlists in dementia care.

Playlist for Life’s work has been recognised in national awards, including The Kings Fund GSK Impact Award 2020, The Scottish Charity Awards Small Charity of the Year award 2024, and the Scottish Design Awards 2025 Best Campaign alongside design agency Imaginary Friends.

Importance of our partnership

Michael Timmons, Executive Director of Playlist for Life said: “We’re a small charity with a big mission to improve the lives of people living with dementia. We are very grateful and absolutely thrilled to be selected as the charity partner for Turcan Connell.

We share Turcan Connell’s approach to being personal and share their commitment to care about people. We have seen this commitment first hand at the pitch to be selected as a charity partner, the kick-off meeting at the offices in Edinburgh and standing side by side when we co-hosted a Playlist for Life stall at The Royal Highland show.

The generous support of Turcan Connell will help us to expand our reach and bring the power of personalised playlists to even more people living with dementia and their families.

We are excited to work with Turcan Connell and hear about the songs that feature on their teams’ personal playlists.”

Richard Douglas-Home, who heads up our charity committee, commented: “We are delighted to be supporting Playlist for Life. Dementia impacts so many families and the work that Playlist for Life are doing is hugely meaningful. We are excited to raise funds for this fantastic charity and to spread awareness of the power of personalised playlists in helping those with dementia.”

This summer, we’ve already hosted two successful fundraisers: a bake sale in our Edinburgh and Glasgow offices, and our annual charity hockey tournament. Together, these events have raised nearly £10,000 and over the next two years, we look forward to working closely with Playlist for Life to help raise awareness of the transformative role that music can play in dementia care.
