Murray Soutar

I act for the owners and managers of land across Scotland and assist them with a wide variety of rural property work. I am predominantly engaged in the purchase and sale of landed estates, farms and forestry but also routinely advise clients on transactions involving agricultural tenancies, salmon fishing rights and option agreements amongst others.

In my practice, there are rarely two transactions the same and I often work closely with other departments in the firm to achieve the best results for my clients. I maintain a particular interest in tax in the rural sector and how best to structure a transaction to mitigate this.

Having grown up in a farming family in Angus, I have a genuine interest in the countryside and rural affairs. I enjoy getting to know clients and using my understanding of their business to better shape the legal advice I provide.
