Kenneth Pinkerton, one of our specialist charity solicitors challenged, coaxed and cajoled 16 of his colleagues to take part in the Great Scottish Run on the 6th October, 2013. Why? Kenneth is also a charity trustee of East Park in Maryhill, Glasgow, a charity which has provided Education and Supported Accommodation services to children and young people with additional support needs, including autism, since 1874.
The aim of the challenge was to help raise funds for East Park's iPad project. This project entails working with the University of Edinburgh to monitor the impact of bespoke apps in supporting East Park's young people's progress with communication alongside a wide range of other educational targets. The technology is extremely important, not least of all because the children are so motivated to use.
The result? We are delight to report that, along with staff from East Park over £5,000 was raised which means that East Park can continue to work with the University of Edinburgh in their research study! The research findings will be written up in the summer of 2014, providing learning, not only to support East Park's children, but also for the wider educational community.
