By Sean Lieder, Summer Intern

During my 5th year in High School, I was fortunate to be able to complete a week of work experience at Turcan Connell – my first insight into the legal world. Fast forward four years and now I’m over halfway through my Internship!

I’m in the fortunate position of being placed in both the Tax & Succession and Charity teams. Getting to experience two teams and balancing the different workloads has been a good challenge but also very interesting.

Before starting, I was quite nervous about being split across two teams but everyone has been so accommodating and happy to answer any questions that I might have. This sense of inclusiveness is one of the reasons why my goal was always to return to Turcan Connell after my work experience. I’m very thankful to have been made to feel like a truly valued member of the team. This, coupled with the real time work I have been given has conveyed a great feel of what it would be like to work here full time.

My time here so far has really flown by. This is partly down to the fact that no two days have been the same. The work is always varied which means I’m learning new things all the time. I’ve attended meetings, carried out research with international aspects and also completed more usual administrative tasks. I’ve even had to translate documents from German and Spanish – despite not speaking any Spanish!

The social side of Turcan Connell has also really helped integrate me into the firm. There have been team lunches, drinks with interns and also with trainees. Playing in hockey matches against other firms is also a weekly highlight of mine - growing up playing Shinty, who knew I’d enjoy Hockey so much! I am particularly looking forward to the summer BBQ later this week which everyone seems to be excited for. There really is plenty to get involved with.

I have learnt so much and grown in confidence in the short amount of time I have been here. I can’t wait to see what else the next half has in store.
