Environment Secretary Roseanna Cunningham has confirmed plans to strengthen fox hunting laws in Scotland following a review by the Rt Hon Lord Bonomy of the Protection of Wild Animals (Scotland) Act 2002.

In response to Lord Bonomy’s report, published November 2016, the Scottish Government will invite stakeholders to develop a code of practice for hunts, and explore the potential for a new monitoring scheme.

Ministers are also planning to consult on recommended changes to the existing legislation, including an extension to the time limit for bringing prosecutions, the introduction of vicarious liability, and reverse burden of proof provisions. The Land & Property team will continue monitoring developments within this area of reform.
