Breaking celebrity news today is that Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from her long-term partner, and husband of two years, Brad Pitt, citing irreconcilable differences.

The Jolie-Pitt divorce raises a number of potential issues. Firstly, given the couple's globetrotting, where in fact should any divorce be dealt with? Jolie has raised the action in California, but there might have been equally good arguments for raising in England, France or indeed Cambodia depending where the family had recently been spending their time, both together and separately.

From Jolie's court action, it seems the matter that is likely to be at the heart of any dispute between the couple is who their children should live with, and what contact the other parent should have. Bucking the trend for shared custody in recent celebrity divorces, Jolie seeks sole custody of the couple's children.

One area that seems less likely to cause contention is how the couple's assets might be dealt with. If the rumours which abounded in advance of the marriage in 2014 are true, there is a Prenuptial Agreement in place which determines how financial matters are to be resolved.
