By Sylwia Jakuczun, Summer Intern

I come from Poland and read Law at the University of Glasgow. I travelled all the way from Australia after my exchange year to become a summer intern at the most prominent private client law firm in Scotland. I believe that my background shows the international aspect of Turcan Connell.

If you are studying abroad, even on the other side of the world, the nine hour time difference is no barrier for Turcan Connell to schedule a Skype interview with you. Despite the initial jet lag I think that my four weeks at Turcan Connell have been fascinating!

I am placed in the Family Law Team, where everybody is very professional, passionate and hardworking. The summer internship allows for an insight into the reality and practicality of legal practice. I have been entrusted with court runs and delivery of documents to advocates and other law firms. Watching proceedings at the Sheriff Court and attending client meetings have added to the fascinating experience at Turcan Connell.

Moreover, I learnt how to draft affidavits, initial writs and letters to court for divorce proceedings. Although, I have to admit that it was definitely a challenging task to make international and national phone calls to courts and law firms in Ireland, England and Brunei (somewhere next to the South China Sea according to Google). A summer intern in the Family Law Team has to not only conduct research and file management tasks, but also draft a schedule of matrimonial property and prepare an inventory of productions for a court action. Being placed in the Family Law Team has been definitely the most incredible experience in my legal career!
