I am now into the fifth week of my Internship at Turcan Connell, and I can say with absolute confidence that I have learnt a lot, far beyond my expectations!
I have been placed in the Land and Property Department; this originally would not have been my first choice in all honesty, however, I have found the work interesting and engaging, and have experienced an area of law which I would not have first considered being an area in which I would wish to specialise in.
My team within the department is one of the smaller teams, which I personally prefer, as you get to know the members of your team well quite quickly. Each member of the team has made an effort to integrate me into the team and make me feel comfortable here. I have been given a variety of work throughout my time, some examples are: drafting a disposition, working out boundary disputes, drafting advice on Standard Securities and Leases, writing letters, and completing a variety of research. As the work at Turcan Connell is very much tailored to the individual needs of the client, no two client matters are the same either, so in that respect the work is extremely varied. I have dealt with: wind farms, estates, residential and commercial leases, and a lot more. It keeps you on your toes and interested!
In addition to the experience I have gained from the work I have carried out here, I have also had a real taste of what it is like to work within this firm. The main thing I wish to highlight is just how friendly and welcoming the people are at Turcan Connell. Everyone is happy to answer any questions you have, or even help you before you have asked. Everyone shares their experiences with you, so you are able to hear first-hand what it is like to be a lawyer in the private client field. It should also be noted that generally everyone gets on really well with one another within the firm, including the Summer Interns, and thus, it is evident that the firm employ a similar type of person; friendly, approachable, hardworking and motivated. We have also been invited to all the social events within the firm, from rounders to the annual Summer BBQ, highlighting the good work/life balance at the firm.
Overall, I have very much enjoyed my time here, and that time has absolutely flown by. If you are interested in working in the private client field, then the Summer Internship at Turcan Connell is invaluable and I would highly recommend it!
