I have really enjoyed my first few weeks at Turcan Connell. I have been working with Jon Robertson's team within the Land and Property Department. It has been great having the opportunity to put theory into practice. It is encouraging to note that even during my first few days as an intern I was given meaningful work; drafting letters, checking accounts, compiling inventories, making enquiries on clients' behalves, registering deeds and proof reading leases. I even had the opportunity to draft a rent review agreement and conduct my own independent research.
Furthermore, during our second week we were invited along to the Land and Property Department meeting. This provided an invaluable insight into recent property law reform and highlighted how it would impact our clients. Moreover, quite a lot of the work I have been involved in has concerned renewables. This is an area of the law in which I have no previous experience, however, I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to test myself and expand my knowledge. I feel this is where the six week placement really comes into its own. It gives you sufficient time to integrate into your teams and come to grips with property law in practice.
The employees at Turcan Connell have all been very welcoming. It was nice to be invited along to Douglas Connell's leaving celebration and I have to say the Wimbledon theme was fantastic. The trainees in particular have been very friendly; inviting us along to socials and answering all our (daft) questions.
I would really encourage others to apply. Turcan Connell not only has a fantastic reputation but from what I have seen so far is a great place to work.
