At Turcan Connell we are no strangers to a little bit of fundraising, whether that's a bake sale, a 10k run or food grocery challenges. However, last Saturday 12th July, four of our employees (Nick Paul, Alan Dean, Angela Kirkbride and David Neilson) took part in a Quadrathlon in a bid to raise funds for charity. So, just to clarify, the guys were not content with the usual Swim, Run and Cycle challenge of a triathlon, they decided to do this in the mountains whilst adding in a kayaking leg as well!

Our four charity warriors arrived late on the Friday afternoon to glorious sunshine and were summoned to a briefing for the event, where they were informed that the weather was going to be very poor – extremely low visibility and windy on the hills, with light rain showers starting late morning then becoming heavier in the afternoon, and remaining so for the rest of the day. Just what they wanted to hear!

Prepared for the worst they headed for rest and awoke to the conditions that were described to them the night before. Still, spirits remained high and they were all ready for the challenge ahead.

The guys were split into two teams; Nick and Alan completed the challenge in 10 hours and 34 minutes whilst David and Angela suffered rotten luck when David's gears broke on the final leg – the cycle. Therefore, the pairing could not receive an official finishing time despite completing all the other legs remarkably well.

The after-event activities were entertaining, featuring lots of food to recharge, a ceilidh, spear throwing, archery and (apparently) there was under-water knife fighting in the morning. Overall it was a long day but a very enjoyable one with great camaraderie.

The team gave the following message once they had caught their breath;"We have raised over £1,700 via our justgiving page which, along a few"offline" donations, means we will exceed our sponsorship target of £1,800. This is fantastic, so thanks very much to all who helped us raise this money. As a reminder, the charities who will benefit from this are Mary's Meals and Mercy Corps. If anyone would still like to contribute, please feel free to do so at"

We’re always happy to discuss things further.
