Christian Melville

I specialise in tax and estate planning for individuals and bring over thirty years of experience of advising on wills and succession planning, executry management, capital tax mitigation, mental health and capacity issues, trust law, charity law, and asset protection.

I am a member of Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and a Writer to the Signet (WS). Amongst others, I have also been a member of the Investor Protection Committee of the Law Society of Scotland, and was formerly a nominated Foreign and Commonwealth Office Secondee to The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe. In an earlier career I soldiered with The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards in the British Army, and recently stepped down as Chair of its Regimental Charity after more than fifteen years of service.

Rather than merely apply the letter of the law, I have learned to take a step back with a view to understanding proactively what clients want to achieve rather than just telling them reactively what the law won’t let them do. Experience and lateral thought matter if practical answers are to be found.
