Employment Law for Charities

Charities rely more than most organisations on their reputation - especially their reputation as a fair employer.


Many face an increasing risk of litigation from employees and even from volunteers. As well as being costly, such litigation could seriously damage a charity’s good reputation.

We guide charities and voluntary organisations of all sizes through the maze of UK employment legislation. We advise on the full range of employment-related issues, including “employment rights” for volunteers, managing absence and disciplinary procedures.

We also advise on issues specific to larger organisations, such as their collective informing and consulting obligations and union recognition.

Our employment law team works closely with Turcan Connell’s charities group to provide comprehensive advice relevant to charitable organisations.

We work with charities in many environments including those in welfare, conservation, further education and healthcare.
