Philippa Cunniff

Philippa is a Partner in the Family Law Team at Turcan Connell. As a dual-qualified lawyer, she is qualified to practise in England and Wales as well as Scotland and is a member of the Law Society of England & Wales. Philippa is accredited as a specialist in Family Law by the Law Society of Scotland and is also a trained collaborative lawyer.

Philippa specialises in Family Law and deals with a wide range of issues arising from the breakdown of relationships. She has particular expertise in complex jurisdictional issues and in the resolution of the financial issues which arise in high net worth cases. She has extensive experience in the successful resolution of issues arising from relationship breakdown, both by way of negotiation and litigation. She has a particular interest in the corporate and commercial issues which often require to be addressed in the context of divorce and dissolution and has acted in numerous cases involving these matters.

Philippa has acted in several cases involving farming and land-owning clients whose circumstances often present particular challenges. She also deals regularly with cases with an international dimension and has worked with fellow lawyers in jurisdictions around the world, from the United States to Australia and South Africa, as well as various European countries.

She is experienced in wealth protection issues and regularly acts in the negotiation and preparation of Pre-Nuptial and Post-Nuptial Agreements, many of which have
cross-border or international dimension. Philippa regularly presents seminars on issues relating to asset protection and financial provision on divorce and has written articles for various legal publications.

Philippa is a member of the Family Law Association in Scotland and also of Resolution (formerly the Solicitors’ Family Law Association in England). She is the Convener of the Law Society of Scotland Practising Certificate Committee. Chambers UK Guide describes Philippa as a “competent and fine lawyer”, whose “promotion to partner at a young age indicates her quality”. She has also been described as “bright and easy to deal with” and her abilities are widely recognised.

Philippa graduated from Aberdeen University in 1997 with an LLB (Hons) and Diploma in Legal Practice. She trained at Loudons WS remaining there after qualifying. In 2001, Philippa joined Turcan Connell where she was assumed as a Partner in April 2006.
