Alasdair Loudon
Partner, Family Law

Alasdair heads Turcan Connell's Family Law practice. Acknowledged as one of Scotland's leading Family Law practitioners, he is particularly well known for his expertise in negotiating separation agreements for high net worth individuals. Chambers UK Guide describes Alasdair as “top-drawer” and “extremely effective at what he does”. In a recent edition, it recommends “if you need something sorted quickly, then Alasdair is the man to go to”.
Alasdair has extensive experience of dealing with complex financial issues including business valuations, share option schemes and pension schemes. He has expertise in the preparation of Pre-Nuptial and Cohabitation Agreements and has developed alternative asset protection arrangements for those entering marriage or cohabitation. Alasdair recognises the importance to clients of resolving issues arising from separation in a
cost-effective and non-confrontational way whenever possible.
Alasdair's team of nine solicitors has a broad range of experience in matrimonial and child law. When the need arises to resort to litigation, Alasdair practises principally in the Court of Session but his team also conducts a wide variety of cases in the Sheriff Court.
A frequent visitor to Turcan Connell’s London office, Alasdair has connections with many English Family Law firms and has considerable experience in managing the cross-border aspects of cases involving international jurisdictional issues. He lectures regularly on a range of topics including the differences between English and Scottish divorce law; on
risk-management issues for Family Law solicitors; and on the development and use of
Pre-Nuptial and Cohabitation Agreements in Scotland.
In 1992 Alasdair established his own practice, Loudons WS, which became one of only three firms in Scotland practising exclusively in Family Law. He joined Turcan Connell as a Partner in April 2001.
Alasdair is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a Specialist in Family Law and he is a member of the Family Law Association. His reputation in his field was acknowledged in 1996 when he was elected President of the Edinburgh Bar Association, a position that he held for two years. He sat as a Member of the Sheriff Court Rules Council for Scotland for six years and has also held the position of tutor in Criminal Law at the University of Edinburgh.
