Donald Simpson is a Partner working from Turcan Connell’s offices in London and Edinburgh. He advises UK and international clients on trusts, asset protection and tax planning. This includes advising on wills, powers of attorney and charitable giving. An important area of his work is inheritance tax and succession planning, notably for entrepreneurs, company directors and family business owners.
Donald has a particular focus on holding structures for private capital, principally trusts, investment partnerships and companies. This includes the use of trusts in commercial contexts, such as employee benefit trusts, directors’ remuneration trusts and EFRBS.
Donald is also an alternate director of Saltire Trustees (Overseas) Limited, Turcan Connell’s trustee company in Guernsey and offers practical advice on offshore trusts and companies. He advises international clients resident in the UK on offshore planning, UK nationals leaving or returning to the UK on residence and tax issues, and UK nationals resident around the world on their UK interests.
Working with Turcan Connell’s trustee companies Donald implements asset protection, family governance and wealth management solutions for international families.
Donald graduated in mathematics from the University of Edinburgh and then read law at Glasgow University. He is a regular speaker at tax planning conferences and has written for professional journals. Donald is the external examiner for the Private Client and Financial Services courses on the Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Edinburgh.
