Douglas is Joint Senior Partner and is responsible for the management of Turcan Connell.

Douglas and Robert Turcan led the team which established Turcan Connell in August 1997.  Douglas qualified as a solicitor in 1976.

He specialises in trusts, asset protection and heritage property.  He acts as principal adviser to many individuals and families including a large number of chairmen and chief executives of Scottish-based companies.  His work on charity law includes the formation and governance of charities and advice to major national institutions as well as private charitable foundations.

Chambers UK 2008 says that peers have a lot of time for Douglas who has a "very strong reputation serving high-profile clients" and a "huge knowledge and interest in the charities sector".

Douglas has a strong interest in the Arts.  He chairs the Recognition Committee of Museums Galleries Scotland, is a former Chairman of the Edinburgh Book Festival and a former Chairman of the Lottery Committee of the Scottish Arts Council.  He has served as a board member of various arts organisations including the Scottish Arts Council, Artlink and the Edinburgh International Festival.  Douglas is a General Council Assessor on the Court of the University of Edinburgh and is a Trustee of many public and charitable organisations.

Douglas is a member of the Political and Taxation Committee and the Scottish Committee of the Historic Houses Association. He is a former member of the Court of the University of St Andrews where he chaired the Audit Committee and the Governance and Nominations Committee.

Douglas is accredited by The Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in both Trust Law and Charity Law.
