Lewis specialsies in agricultural law, particularly the resolution of disputes between agricultural landlords and tenants. He heads a small litigation team, which may be unique in Scotland, of agricultural lawyers primarily involved in such matters.

Of the many agricultural disputes he has been involved in, Lewis has resolved several claims of tenancies by former general partners under the new agricultural holdings legislation, issues arising from succession or failed succession to agricultural holdings, rent review and resumption.

His non-contentious work includes the purchase and sale of farms, the preparation of new leases, the agreed termination of agricultural tenancies, service of agricultural notices and general agricultural advice. He also advises clients on the impact of the land reform legislation, and can comment with authority on the statutory forms of right-to-buy, the new forms of tenancy, existing tenancies and public access to the countryside.

Chambers UK Guide describes Lewis as “an articulate and forceful litigator as well as an unusually lateral thinker”. Seen as one of Scotland's most notable practitioners in contentious agricultural law, he takes “a robust stance” and is endorsed as “a first-class lawyer”.

Lewis is a graduate of Oxford and Strathclyde Universities. He was made an Associate at Turcan Connell in 2005 and a Senior Associate in 2006.
