Jon specialises in agriculture and rural property. He advises on all property matters including agricultural law, agricultural subsidies, crofting, forestry, aquaculture, conservation, development sales, diversification, minerals, waste disposal, rural planning and renewable energy.
Jon has more than 20 years’ experience of acting for the owners and occupiers of rural land. He acts in the sale and purchase of many of the largest farms and estates in Scotland, is closely involved with the financing and refinancing of rural property, and has advised over 100 landowners on renewable energy projects
He also advises individuals and groups seeking to oppose inappropriate schemes. He represents a major environmental charity and is closely involved in nature conservation and environmental issues
Jon is accredited as a specialist in agricultural law advising on all contentious and non-contentious agricultural law matters. He speaks and writes regularly on agricultural law and on rural property matters.
Jon is described by Chambers UK 2008 as a prominent expert on alternative energy schemes. It reports that peers credit him with “omniscience” in agricultural law and consequently go to him for “specialist questions”.
