Turcan Connell announces senior promotions

Turcan Connell is delighted to announce several senior promotions within the firm. This reflects our long-term strategy of attracting and retaining the most talented and committed people, offering a range of complementary services to our clients covering all their legal, financial and tax needs. Another long-term focus is on succession planning to ensure continuity for clients and continued success for the firm, so it is pleasing to note that one of the promotions to Senior Associate, Donald Simpson, has been with Turcan Connell since he completed his traineeship with us in 2000.

Four of the promotions are to Senior Associate and four are to Associate level, with six promotions to Senior Solicitor. There are also two promotions to senior positions within the investment and tax compliance teams. Five of the promotions are within the land and property team reaffirming Turcan Connell’s position as a leading presence in Scotland in property law.

Promotion to Senior Associate

Alastair Collin
Alastair joined Turcan Connell in 2004 as a Senior Solicitor and was promoted to Associate in 2005. Alastair is a member of the property team led by Jon Robertson and his experience covers renewable energy projects including wind farms, as well as rural environment and planning.

Kenneth Pinkerton
Kenneth joined Turcan Connell in 2001 as a Solicitor and was promoted to Senior Solicitor in 2003 and to Associate in 2006. Kenneth is a member of the team led by Simon Mackintosh and his experience includes trust, tax, executries and charities with commercial trust advice, management plans and the authorisation of gifts by attorneys/guardians.

Donald Simpson
Donald completed his traineeship with Turcan Connell in 2000 and was promoted to Senior Solicitor in 2004. He was then promoted to Associate in 2006.  Donald is a member of the team led by Hubert Ross and Heather Thompson and his experience includes dealing with employee benefit trusts and leasing arrangements to secure capital allowances. Donald has particular involvement with our Guernsey business.

Linsey Smith
Linsey joined Turcan Connell in 2004 having qualified as a solicitor in 1988. She was promoted to Senior Solicitor in 2006 and then to Associate in 2007. Prior to joining Turcan Connell, Linsey spent nine years as Deputy Director of Professional Practice Department at The Law Society of Scotland. Linsey is a member of Jon Robertson’s team and deals with all aspects of property law.

Promotion to Associate

Russell Duncan
Russell joined Dundas & Wilson in 1985 and was part of the private client department which demerged to form Turcan Connell in 1997. He qualified in 1984 and was promoted to Senior Solicitor in 1990. Russell is a member of Robert Turcan’s team and deals with a large volume of general estate conveyancing on behalf of a significant number of large landed estates.

Stuart Holmes
Stuart joined Turcan Connell in July 2007 having qualified as a solicitor in 1999. Prior to joining Turcan Connell, Stuart spent seven years at the Bar where his caseload included civil and criminal work. Stuart is a member of David Ogilvy’s team and has been helping to further develop our litigation business.

Gillian MacNulty
Gillian joined Turcan Connell in 2006 having qualified as a solicitor in 1991. Gillian works particularly with Kenneth Mackay and deals with all aspects of rural property law including development sales/option agreements, the sale and purchase of country houses and security work on behalf of commercial lenders.

Phaedra Mercer
Phaedra joined Turcan Connell in 2001 having qualified as a solicitor in 1999. She was promoted to Senior Solicitor in 2004. Phaedra is a member of the team led by Adam Gillingham and deals with urban residential conveyancing including planning and building control requirements.

Promotion to Senior Investment Manager

Duncan Blyth
Duncan joined Turcan Connell in June 2006 as an Investment Manager. Duncan acts as lead manager for a number of clients and also carries out the analysis of alternative investments and research on structured products.

Promotion to Senior Tax Manager

Iain Alexander
Iain joined Turcan Connell in 2002 as a Tax Manager in our tax compliance department. Iain is responsible for the management of a complex portfolio of tax compliance clients providing support on tax advisory assignments including capital gains tax planning.
