Specialist Accreditation for Turcan Connell Associate
10 August 2007
Gavin McEwan, a Senior Associate with private client firm Turcan Connell, has been accredited as a specialist in charity law by the Law Society of Scotland. His accreditation means that Turcan Connell now has four accredited charity law specialists.
Gavin joined Turcan Connell in 1998 and became a Senior Associate in 2006. In addition to charity law, he advises clients on asset protection, trusts, and tax law. He has been instrumental in building the firm’s charity unit and advising charities on their new responsibilities under the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act as it has come into force.
Becoming an accredited specialist is a lengthy process. Accredited specialists must have demonstrated competence and significant experience in their chosen field and applications should be supported by further teaching, presentations and published articles.
Gavin is a regular contributor to the Scottish Private Client Law Review and is a member of the editorial board of the Scottish chapter of Tolley’s Charities Manual. He is also Scottish legal adviser to the Which? Publication What to do When Someone Dies.
Gavin is also a non-executive director of the arts and disability charity Drake Music (Scotland) and a non-executive director of Artlink, Edinburgh and the Lothians.
