17 May 2007Turcan Connell Holds First Offshore Tax Conference
Private client firm Turcan Connell and Pump Court Tax Chambers held their first offshore tax conference at the Fermain Valley Hotel in St Martin’s. The event focused on offshore trusts and their taxation.
Pump Court’s Head of Chambers, Andrew Thornhill QC, spoke on new developments in employee benefit trusts and UK property transactions using offshore vehicles. Elizabeth Wilson, a barrister at Pump Court, spoke about the tax issues affecting offshore trusts, and Alison MacKrill, Managing Director of Turcan Connell International Trust Services, spoke about Private Trust Companies.
Alison MacKrill said: “We are delighted to bring delegates from the UK to Guernsey to discuss what opportunities are available when using Guernsey trust and corporate structures. Delegates will also have the opportunity to speak with invited guests from the finance industry in one of the Island’s most beautiful locations.”
Andrew Thornhill said: "Having chaired the recent Guernsey Financial Forum in London, I can say that Guernsey provides a wide choice of structures for holding private wealth and providing pensions. The purpose of the conference will be to consider the comparative merits of these structures and what can be done with them.”
The conference concluded with an audience question-and-answer session, which was followed by a reception and dinner for all guests.
