29 July 2010Scottish Government begins consultation on extension of FOI (Scotland) Act
Yesterday saw the start of the Scottish Government's consultation on the extension of coverage of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
The consultation seeks views on whether Freedom of Information legislation should be extended to cover certain organisations, including bodies set up by local authorities for the provision of certain facilities namely leisure, sport and cultural services. Organisations receiving in excess of £100,000 per annum of public money will be targeted. The Scottish Government's initial assessment is that at present twenty five trusts potentially fall within the scope of the proposals. A search of the Scottish Charity Register shows that of these 25 trusts, 24 are charities. The consultation is due to close on 2nd November 2010.
