"The relationship between wealth managers and investment banks is usually one of a buyer and a seller, with a large element of trust involved.
"However, the financial crisis that has plunged the world into a global recession and has shown that honesty and transparency are not the pillars upon which investment banks were built.
"So for sceptical portfolio managers – who do not have a trading background or an army of overtly qualified researchers to verify the often complex pricing structures put forward by investment banks – the alternative is to turn to structured product intermediaries."
