The Kintore Charitable Trust

Introduction

The Kintore Charitable Trust was established under a Deed of Trust by the late 12th Earl of Kintore in 1984. The Trust is a general grant-making trust, but the Trustees favour community causes in the counties of Aberdeenshire and Kincardineshire. They also consider causes involving young people or the environment in those counties. The Trustees also consider a number of applications each year in aid of medical health charities.

Application Criteria

Charitable purposes: The Kintore Charitable Trust makes grant to charities which work in the following fields:-

  • The advancement of citizenship or community development – the Trustees consider applications from community groups, working for the benefit of their local area and for the people who reside there. Charities which assist the elderly, promote opportunities for young people or conserve the environment are given particular consideration.
  • The advancement of the arts, culture and heritage – the Trustees occasionally make a small number of grants available for arts projects.
  • The advancement of health – the Trustees consider a limited number of grants in the advancement of health (including medical research) in any one year.
  • Please note that the Trustees only entertain applications falling outside these categories in exceptional circumstances.

Geographical Spread

The Trustees prefer causes in the Grampian region of Scotland, with particular focus on the counties of Aberdeenshire and Kincardineshire.

Size of Award Made

The Trustees typically make awards of between £500 and £1,000 available. Larger grants are available only in exceptional circumstances, at the Trustees’ discretion.

Restrictions

Please note that The Kintore Charitable Trust normally makes grants to charitable bodies only. Applications by individuals will seldom be considered. Unsolicited applications for gap year funding are not entertained.

How to Apply

Applications should be made in writing on no more than 3 sides of A4 by email to kintoretrust@turcanconnell.com. Please ensure that you refer to The Kintore Charitable Trust in the body of your application. If your charity does not have access to email, a hard copy application may be sent to: The Kintore Charitable Trust, Turcan Connell, Princes Exchange, 1 Earl Grey Street, Edinburgh EH3 9EE. Postal applications should be marked for the attention of Gavin McEwan.

Please do not send additional literature or materials such as DVDs, compact discs, etc, as additional materials will not be passed on to the Trustees.

Deadline for Applications

The Trustees meet once a year in June or July to decide on grants for the following 12 months.

Applications should reach us by email or in hard copy not later than 15th May. Successful applicants will normally be advised of any award by early August. The Trustees normally pay grants prior to 30th September in each year.

Please note that applications are not normally acknowledged on receipt, but all applicants, whether successful or not, will be contacted after the Trustees have held their annual meeting.
