Turcan Connell 2200 Challenge

At Turcan Connell we actively encourage our staff to take part in charitable events as part of our ethos of "engaged philanthropy". This year our efforts took us on an exciting trip across eastern Europe.  The challenge began on Sunday 17th August and you can follow the team's story here.

Some of the cyclists

Four teams of intrepid cyclists from Turcan Connell each completed a leg of the 2200 km journey from Warsaw to St Petersburg during August and September in support of Marie Curie Cancer Care, as part of their "Bike the Baltic" challenge.

Warsaw was a fitting starting point for the challenge as the birthplace of Marie Curie herself in 1867. From there, our cyclists traversed myriad types of terrain as they passed through Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn on their way to the majestic St Petersburg on the Baltic Sea.

The team hoped to raise in excess of £100,000 and had already funded the full costs of the trip before setting off so every pound raised goes to support the important work of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Should you wish to sponsor us in our efforts, you can do so via our "just giving" page at http://www.justgiving.com/turcanconnell2200

Please bookmark this page and come back over the coming months to see how our plans and fundraising efforts are progressing.

60 Years of Care 2008 - Marie Curie Cancer Care

Route one – Warsaw to Vilnius (670km)

The terrain didn't  include any serious hills so was considered less demanding than some of the others – but with six long days in the saddle all the same.

Route 1

Route two – Vilnius to Riga (520km)

This was a fairly tough route – it was the second longest with some significant undulations along the way.

Route 2

Route three – Riga to Talinn (580km)

Starting in Latvia and finishing in Estonia, this challenge linked two beautiful capital cities in Eastern Europe. We followed the Baltic coastline all the way, taking in some pretty coastal towns and the second largest waterfall in the country.

Route 3

Route four – Talinn to St Petersburg (460km)

This was probably the toughest route. Although the shortest in distance, with much of the route close to the sea, it was the most likely to be windy and chilly.
